Comprehensive Vision Services
Among the services offered at our local eye center, the most important is the initial eye exam. It is at this time that Dr. Jeffrey Handschumacher collects the basic information used to evaluate your vision, assess any potential problems and undertake the diagnostic tests required to make any necessary vision corrections.
We encourage our patients to share their family vision history with us; we welcome your questions as well, and will address any concerns you may have about treatment options. Our examinations typically include not only the familiar eye chart, but also measure a variety of functions: Eye muscle strength, color and depth perception, light sensitivity and focus. State-of-the-art diagnostic tools at our Raleigh clinic complement our doctor’s experience and expertise.
Additional services include:
Ortho-K & Myopia Control: If your child has myopia (nearsightedness), and each year you are told the vision is worse and the glasses need to be stronger, does that worry you? Have you ever wondered if there is something to help slow or even stop the progression of myopia? If so, you may want to consider Ortho-K (Ortho-Keratology) for your child.
Contact Lens Exams: Not all eyes are suitable for contact lens correction, but a simple exam will determine if yours will be helped by contacts. Because of the different types available today, it is likely that we can find a contact solution to fit your lifestyle. Our staff will not only fit your lenses correctly, but will monitor your vision and schedule follow-up appointments.
Hard-to-Fit Contacts and Specialty Lenses: Keratoconus is a relatively rare condition characterized by a misshapen cornea that causes distortion and focusing problems. Although no corrective or preventative treatments are available, there are specialty contacts that will enhance vision. Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K, is a non-invasive option for those who don’t want to consider surgery or contacts. A specially designed lens worn during sleep can “reshape” the cornea and allow for temporary vision correction, with effects lasting from 24-48 hours.
Eye Diseases: Dr. Handschumacher is trained and certified to diagnose and manage conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataracts and glaucoma.
Emergencies: Our Raleigh clinic is equipped to handle specific emergency treatment during regular hours. If you experience pain, have been hit in the eye, or need a foreign object removed, do not hesitate to visit our office, even without an appointment. We will do our best to accommodate you.
Computer Vision Problems: It’s a complication of the digital age — long hours in front of a screen can cause headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and other complaints. Our eye doctor will suggest ways to counteract that digital eyestrain.
Frames: Family Eye Care Center carries a wide selection of practical and designer frames, including Nike Eyewear, Coach, Ray Ban and Oakley. We also feature sunglasses, specialty eyewear, tinted lenses and transitional lenses. We even repair eyeglasses.
Why not schedule an appointment today? We look forward to seeing you.
